Last call to join the Solitude Fellowship programme!

About the Solitude Fellowship

Every two years, the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart awards between 50 and 60 residential fellowships to international artists, scholars, and cultural professionals from all disciplines. The Solitude Fellowship provides space for focused work, interdisciplinary exchange, and international networking – and sees itself as a contribution to an open, diverse, and globally connected cultural landscape.

The Solitude Fellowship is aimed at individuals with two to ten years of independent practice following their formal education or training, who wish to deepen their professional development and take the next step toward international and interdisciplinary networking.

A two-stage application process

Organisers are introducing a two-stage application process. In the first stage – the Short Application – applicants fill out an online form with information about their personal details, sphere of practice, and motivation. After this first stage is completed, they will conduct an anonymous random selection procedure in spheres with very high numbers of applications to ensure a fair pre-selection.

All applicants who are admitted to the second stage can submit a full application on the application platform within a given deadline.

Benefits of the programme:

- A 6- or 9-month stay in Stuttgart, Germany
- A monthly stipend of €1,300 to cover living expenses
- A furnished live/work studio at Akademie Schloss Solitude, including electricity, heating, and water
- One-time reimbursement of travel expenses (arrival and departure)
- Coverage of health insurance costs for Non-EU-Citizens
- Access to an international community of fellows
- Participation in an interdisciplinary program and regular events
- Support with local and regional networking
- Use of workshops (wood, metal, media/VR) and libraries
