Saari Residence | Findland

Mynämäki

Deadline 27/03/2024

Apply
The Saari Residence, maintained by Helsinki-based Kone Foundation, is an international residence located in Mynämäki, Southwest Finland. It offers an opportunity for artists of all disciplines and nationalities to focus undisturbed on creative work in the scenic surroundings of a rural manor house, as well the chance to interact with other residents.

The residence’s long-term activities and thinking are underpinned by an ecological approach, which also covers social and psychological sustainability. Its keywords are slowness, insight and change. An ecological approach is not a criterion in the artists’ selection process: the ecological focus is on residence activities.

An individual residency spanning two months includes accommodation, a workroom and a monthly grant, the sum of which is determined by the applicant’s experience (€2,700/€3,200/€3,800 per month). The purpose of the grant is to cover the costs of living, travel and other expenses. It is possible to apply for support for low-emmission travel costs and travel from the Global South.

In summer all premises are reserved for workgroups and the residence functions as a production residence. Groups can apply for grant for a work period of two to four weeks.

The Saari Residence hosts approximately 35–50 residents or workgroups each year.

Saari Residence is located in the district of Mynämäki, in Southwest Finland, about 10 km from Mynämäki village centre. Saari Residence is situated 30 km from the city of Turku. Turku is well served by bus and train connections to Helsinki; the journey typically takes around 2 hours. Several buses also run daily between Helsinki-Vantaa airport and Turku. Local buses from Turku bus station will take you to within 2 km of the Residence. We encourage our guests to take their time travelling to Saari (slow travel), if possible, using train, bus or boat instead of an airplane. They recommend flying to Helsinki and using a bus from the airport.
