STAROMIEJSKI DOM KULTURY | RESIDENCY PROGRAMME IN WARSAW

Warsaw

Staromiejski Dom Kultury runs a residency programme offering short- and mid-term stays for writers, playwrights and literary translators. The programme is addressed primarily to artists from Belarus and Ukraine.

Residents are invited to spend several creative weeks in the centre of Warsaw, with the opportunity to immerse themselves in the artistic life, history and cultural landscape of the city. The programme encourages longer stays that allow for focused work, exchange, and meaningful engagement with the local cultural environment.

As part of the residency, participants are provided with:

– Comfortable accommodation and workspace in the city centre,

– A daily scholarship covering living costs (including taxes),

– Technical and logistical support,

– Opportunities to become actively involved in the institution’s ongoing projects and cultural activities.

The residency programme supports artists who are currently working on a literary project and who have previous professional experience, such as published books, poetry collections, translations, or staged theatrical works. Communication in English or Polish is required to ensure participation in the programme and collaboration with local partners.

The timing and duration of each residency are agreed individually, allowing flexibility to adapt the stay to the needs of each resident and the nature of their work.

The project is implemented in the framework of a partnership between three Polish host cities: Cracow, Gdańsk and Warsaw and two literary associations: Literary Union Association and Literary Translators Association. The partnership offers residencies in the three host cities and a joint website that promotes the literary residency concept and includes a database of scholarships available in Poland and abroad.
