WRITER IN THE PARK. Ljubljana UNESCO City of Literature Literary Residency
Lubljana
Deadline 19/01/2026
Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, was named World Book Capital in 2010 and became the country’s first UNESCO City of Literature in 2015. The city has a vibrant arts scene and hosts a wide range of literary events, from alternative performances to major international festivals.
Two one-month residencies for writers are offered at the Švicarija/Swisshouse Creative Centre, which is part of the International Centre of Graphic Arts.
When?
Each residency lasts one month per applicant. The residency periods are April 1–30, 2026, and November 1–30, 2026. The dates are non-negotiable, but a shorter stay is possible if required due to travel arrangements.
For whom?
The residency is for published international writers with a clear connection to another UNESCO City of Literature through residence or work.
The applicant must have published at least one work of fiction (prose, poetry, or drama) in their own language. There are no restrictions regarding age, race, gender, nationality, or other personal characteristics. While writers of all genres may currently apply, future calls may introduce specific thematic or genre focuses.
Note for local writers: This residency program is designed to cultivate international literary exchange by offering writers a dedicated space for the development of new work and the opportunity to engage with the local community. To maintain this international focus, applications from writers based in Ljubljana or Celje cannot be accepted.
What is offered?
Each resident will receive a total grant of €1,250 gross, including travel expenses. Residents will stay in a private, fully equipped apartment with a kitchenette at Švicarija, alongside other residents and artists.
Deadline for submissions: January 19, 2026.
