WRITING IN GDAŃSK – FOR AUTHORS FROM POLAND, BELARUS, AND UKRAINE

Residency, being part of the „Writing in Gdańsk” programme, is dedicated to authors professionally engaged in literary practice (prose, essay, poetry, drama, comics, graphic novels, artists' books), coming from Poland, Belarus or Ukraine. From 2026, the operator of the programme is Gdańsk House of Literature.

The residency aims to promote Polish, Belarusian, and Ukrainian literature by supporting creatives and building dialogue with local diasporas. Its result will be a literary or interdisciplinary work, whose character, form, and volume will correspond to the conception presented in the application process. During the 4-week stay in Gdańsk, each of the residents will have a chance to participate in an author’s meeting, a panel discussion, or other cultural activities organised by the Gdańsk House of Literature.

 

What is offered:

- a stipend of 1100 pln gross / each week of residency

- covering travel costs to and from Gdańsk

-  free-of-charge accommodation in a studio at Świętojańska Street in Gdańsk

- organisational and promotional support

- participation in the cultural activities at the Gdańsk House of Literature

Criteria:

All aplications will be evaluated by a commission consisting of the staff members of the Gdańsk House of Literature and the City Culture Institute. The composition of the jury shall remain confidential until the results of the selection proceedings are announced.

By the time of sending the application, the applicant should have published at least one book or regularly publish in literary magazines of national or international scope.

A good command of either Polish or English is recommended.

How to apply:

The application should include:

- correctly filled-out form

- resume

- covering letter

- description of a project, which will be developed during the residency, along with a preliminary schedule

- fragment of a scientific or literary work or a presentation showcasing an interdisciplinary project.

17.08 – 06.09.2026

Announcement of the results:

until 14.09.2026

Residency period:

4 weeks, in the specific period agreed upon with the Organiser, between 21.09.2026 and 13.12.2026.
