LITERARY RESIDENCIES IN WARSAW FOR WRITERS, PLAYWRITERS AND TRANSLATORS FROM BELARUS AND UKRAINE

An actress by training, worked at the Mariupol Drama Theatreand was a journalist at Sigma TV (creating the televisionprogram “Engagement”), as well as a published journalist for the media. In 2014, when war broke out in eastern Ukraine, she moved to Kyiv, where she received her second degree, becoming a drama director. She taught directing and acting at the Kyiv National University of Theatre, Cinema and Television named after Karpenko-Kary (majoring in dramaturgy and film directing).

 

She has written over 10 productions of prose works, published in Ukrainian and for school theatre, as well as short film scripts.

 

In 2022, during a residency at the Kyiv National Theatre Institute named after Raszewski Theatre in Warsaw, shea dapted the original play “Family Stories” by Serbianp laywright Biljana Srbljanović into Ukrainian and adapted its events to the contemporary context of the occupied Donbass. She also directed the play “GRA” based on this text; the performance was presented at a musical program marking the anniversary of the outbreak of war in Ukraine.

 

During her residency at the Institute in 2024, she wrote the play “The Roof,” consisting of two one-act plays: “Someone Else’s Correspondence” and “To Be or Not to Be.”

 

In November 2025, the premiere of “The Station” took place at the Polish Theatre in Warsaw. Svitlana Doronchenko directed and co-wrote the play (she adapted O. Witer’s play”The Station” and wrote three female monologues). The performance was produced as part of the Raszewski TheatreInstitute’s creative residency.

 

Svitlana wrote the script for the feature-length documentary”The Repressed Carol,” about Ukrainian dissident writers and artists from the 1960s and 1970s. The film will premiere on December 24, 2025, on the Ukrainian public televisionchannel Suspilne.
